If your computer has been infected with a virus, you need to take prompt action.
It can happen to the best of us; a virus infiltrates your system, possibly stealing data or using your system to send out spam, causing havoc and stress to you and possibly to your contacts.
Even the best anti-virus software can sometimes let something slip through. And then there are those emails with the dodgy attachments. Okay, most of them are so obvious that it's hard to believe they'll catch anyone out, but some are just a little bit smarter and if you happen to receive an email that looks like it's from HMRC just after you've done a VAT return, then the temptation to open the attached document without thinking about it may just overwhelm you.
However it happens, you need to be sure that your data is safe, and that the virus is fully eradicated. So if you suspect you have a virus and you're not sure what to do next, call us on the number above.
Footnote to this post
Within 2 hours of writing this, the scenario I mentioned above actually happened to one of my clients. In his case, the email was from WorldPay and since his business accepts payments using WorldPay, it seemed reasonable to open the attachment.
Luckily for him, he uses OpenOffice rather than Microsoft Office and the macro that would have stolen his financial details was powerless to do so. But even so, it's a reminder to be vigilant.
